Achieving a net-zero, resilient, and just urban future within a 1.5°C global temperature increase requires rapid and transformative climate action. The Global Covenant of Mayors for Climate & Energy (GCoM), in partnership with Arup, has developed the ‘Climate Innovation Readiness Navigator for Cities and Local Governments’ (CIRN) to help cities assess and enhance their readiness to engage in innovative climate action.
Through the Innovate4Cities (I4C) initiative, GCoM recognizes the need to further support cities by helping them understand their readiness for climate innovation and find effective partners for their climate action priorities. The CIRN provides a rapid assessment across three key areas:
- Rapid Assessment of Readiness: Establishes a baseline of strengths and opportunities, prioritizing targeted interventions and tailored solutions.
- Prioritization for Fast-Tracking Innovation: Guides cities on priority areas, pinpointing where additional focus is needed to prepare for adopting innovative climate actions.
- Cross-Sector Partnership Acceleration: Highlights opportunities for collaboration among government, research, business, and civil society to unlock local and global innovation potential.
The CIRN aims to empower city leaders to take strategic, innovative actions and accelerate progress toward a sustainable urban future.
