What are the main ongoing GCoM initiatives to support climate and energy action?
The GCoM alliance has established three initiatives to address the compelling needs of cities in developing and implementing their action plans. These initiatives help tackle existing gaps in research, innovation, and technical assistance, and address the challenges of funding and access to data.
To catalyze the scientific advances necessary for even more ambitious climate action, by addressing critical data, research and innovation gaps.
To accelerate and increase investment in cities and local governments by unlocking project pipelines, mobilizing innovative finance solutions and integrating urban issues into national climate investment plans.
To leverage and link data to drive local climate initiatives by harmonizing and promoting consistent and transparent progress reporting and enabling data-driven decision making.
In addition to these three initiatives, the GCoM alliance’s communication efforts also provide support to the global community. The GCoM gives over 10,000 cities a unified voice on the international stage, advocating for a green, healthy and resilient society. Through the GCoM, over 10,000 cities, in over 135 countries and representing more than 800 million people, speak with one voice about the issues that matter most in the world’s cities.
